PTP is the abbreviation for "Picture Transfer Protocol" and provides an interface between imaging devices like digital cameras and image processing devices such as Computers or printers dar. The devices communicate on the PTP standard was developed by the International Imaging Industry Association and in 2004 by Microsoft and Canon to the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) was developed. In order to communicate via PTP cameras need not be placed on the camera's menu only rarely in the PTP mode. So these e.g. recognized in the File Explorer on Windows XP as a removable drive but not as a camera or scanner.
